Journal practice 2

A.) Dehuminization: to deprive of human qualities or attributes; divest of individuality

B.) The behavior of the prisoners changed in many ways, their mindset before was to care about each other and to make sure everyone was safe survives. Now its every man to themselves by doing whatever it takes to survive. Everyone is starving to death and now they would beat up a man just to get one bite of a piece of bread.

 c) Elizers faith for god is starting to dissapear. He was at angry and god and questioned him, why would he let this happen? When the Jews were burned in the crematory and were being hunged on the gallows he was quiet and just stood by and watched his father and innocent prisoners be punished. Eliezer did not stand up for them but just watched.

Pg. 52 " I had watched the whole seen without moving. I kept quiet. In fact I was thinking of how to get father away so that I would not be hit myself. What is more, any anger I felt at that moment was directed, not against the Kapo, but against my father. I was angry with him, for not knowing how to avoid idea's outbreak. That is what concentration camp life had made of me."

Pg. 63 "What are You, my God," I thought angrily, "compared to this afflicted crowd, proclaiming to You their faith, their anger, their revolt? What does Your greatness mean, Lord of the universe, in the face of all this weakness, this decomposition, and this decay? Why do You still trouble their sick minds, their crippled bodies?"

Pg. 65 " My eyes were open and I was alone-terribly alone in a world without God and without man. Without love or mercy. I had ceased to be anything but ashes, yet I felt myself to be stronger than the Almighty, to whom my life had been tied for so long. I stood amid that praying congregation, observing it like a stranger."

Pg. 61"  The three victims mounted together onto the chairs. The three necks were placed at the same moment within the nooses. "Long live liberty!" cried the two adults. But the child was silent. "Where is God? Where is He?" someone behind me asked."

Pg. 77 " My neighbor, the faceless one, said: "Don't let yourself be fooled with illusions. Hitler has made it very clear that he will annihilate all the Jews before the clock strikes twelve, before they can hear the last stroke." I burst out: "What does it matter to you? So we have to regard Hitler as a prophet?" His glazed, faded eyes looked at me. At last he said in weary voice: "I've got more faith in Hitler than in anyone else. He's the only one who's kept his promises, all his promises, to the Jewish people."

When you first hear news about armies coming to hurt you your first instant would to run away, arm up, and do anything to protect themselves. Although the jews saw things a different way. When Moshe the beadle told them stories about the Jews having to dig their own graves and were killed they did not run, nor freak out they believed that everything would be okay and they won't be harmed like they were. When the Germany armies first invaded the Jews territory they considered them as polite and made no unpleasant comments about them even though they did not know what they were actually capable of. Three days after they created new rules for the jews, They had to wear a yellow star, lived in the ghetto for awhile, gave away valuables, and was told that they were going to be taken somewhere secret. The jews automatically obeyed and packed a bag on their backs, some food, a few clothes and nothing else. They believed that they were just going to these camps to work and do special jobs. Throughout ever negative thing that happened to them they had a positive attitude. They were optimistic and the narrator portrays that even when going through hard time you should always be positive.

1.) " We even doubted that he wanted to exterminate us "

When hearing all this horrible news about what happened to the jews they still had a positive attitude that everything would be okay and they would have no harm.

2.) " We bagan to be tortured by thirst. Then the heat became unbearable. "

Even though they were traveling for a long time they still weren't offered any food or water from the germans. They did not care about how they felt.

3.) " If anyone is missing, you'll all be shot like dogs "

They were freed to stay in a wagon filled with 80 other people. They did not care where you went you would automatically die if you are not in that wagon.

4.) "Man question God and God answers. But we don't understand His answers. We can't understand him"
Elizer believed strongly in god and believed that everything was a a part of gods plan. He had a very strong religion and trusted him throughout everything  and believed they would be fine.

5) " Humanity? Humanity is not concerned with us. Today anything is allowed. Anything is possible, even these crematories..."
It's sad to say that we don't know what people are capable of. They turn against each other and will do whatever it takes to get things their own way even if it means killing innocent people. They wanted to make sure all the Jews were gone and they will do anything to make that happen.

Adolf hitler

Adolf Hitler was born in Branau am Inn, Austria, on April 20, 1889. He was the son of Alois Hitler and Klara Polzl. His father disagreed with hitlers interest in fine art rather than business and distanced himself from his family due to not getting along with his father. Adolf then found interest in German nationalism and did not like being controlled by Austria-Hungary. He did not like the idea of being controlled by others and if he didnt get it his way, he would want others to suffer.  Adolf said that “ Germany will either be a world power or will not be at all”. This pride toward Germany corrupted his mind and  made him the person he is today. When alois died in 1903 his mother allowed him to drop out of school and applied to the academy of fine arts but got rejected twice. Adolf then applied to serve the german military. Due to already being depressed about his relationship with his father, killing others corrupted his mind to crave killing more and more.

Adolf Hitler was known for his obsessive need for authority over the people of Germany. He was the type of person who constantly wanted control and because of this he did what he needed to do to gain that power. The roots of hitlers anti-semitism are still unknown but he had strong resentment towards the Jewish because he felt that they were the ones to blame for the countries defeat in 1918. When President Paul von Hindenburg died, Hitler saw that as an oppourtunity to become fuhrer, supreme ruler of Germany. He continued to be even more of a selfish and heartless guy towards the Jews. A little after the war had ended, Hitler joined the National Socialist German Workers’ Party A.K.A Nazis. In March 1933, the first concentration camp was opened in Dachau, Germany consisting most of Communists. These German camps held about 27,000 people in “protective custody”. Germany started doing mass transportations and they started by taking the people who were least useful, for example, the sick, old, weak, and young ones. In this time, more than 12,000 jews were killed daily making this one of the biggest genocide events occured in history.

“Humanitarianism is the expression of stupidity and cowardice.”
“I do not see why man should not be just as cruel as nature.”
“If you tell a big enough lie and tell it frequently enough, it will be believed.”

Three people had been killed and around 260 of them had been seriously injured. According to CNN news and FBI, the two bombs were contained in pressure cookers and hidden in the backpacks of the suspects. 8 year old Martim Richard was cheering on his dad at the end of the finish line and was one of the victims who had been killed that day because of the bombings.
